What can we make of this instruction from our Lord Jesus? Make no oath at all. OK, that sounds easy enough. But wait a minute. God Himself has been making oaths, and His people were commanded to fear Him, serve Him, cling to Him and … swear by His name (e.g., Deut 10.20). The Law prohibits making false oaths, but it certainly didn’t forbid the making of oaths. So, what does the Lord Jesus mean then? . . . .

Either Temple of God or House of Baal

The world tells us there's no real black and white, that we’ve got to leave some room for what we call "tolerance"; but of course we wouldn’t say it is "compromise". But what does the Word of God teach us? As we approach the final portions of Matthew Chapter 12, let us examine carefully where we stand. Are we of the light or of darkness? for Him or against Him? Gathering or scattering? Of the truth or of falsehood? Good or evil? Because as the saying goes, never the twain shall meet..

In my own words: ____________________ Now, let’s refer to the next Parable in the series to see how the Word would define God’s grace . . . .

Well, of course not! I’m so decent, I’ll never be guilty of committing adultery - I can just skip this part. As for the other verses, about hell, and the cutting off of the right hand and the gouging out the eye because of sin, surely the Lord Jesus does not mean it literally.

Hmmm, so what does the Lord mean then?

What does Jesus mean by these words? Can there be a sin too great to be forgiven by God? How could a loving and compassionate God not forgive? A careful study of the Scriptures - Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet - leads us to an enlightening explanation. Let us walk humbly before our great and holy God...

The Responsibility Incumbent upon The Hearers

God’s plan of salvation was perfectly accomplished in His Son – in the death and resurrection of our dear Lord Jesus. By God’s grace, Christ Jesus did not fail in his mission. And thus, by his blood, God purchased His beloved Church.

But what about us now, the Church – how are we faring in our mission? What has been our response to God’s plan of salvation? Could the same be said of us, that we are not failing in our mission? As we bring you this message, we trust that our Heavenly Father will continue to work in His beloved Church that she too might live to bring Him glory. Let Eph 3.21 be true in our generation: To God be the glory in the Church and in Christ Jesus to all generations forever and ever. Amen.

Gather with Christ, Build Up the Church

Is Christ’s death simply a fact from some distant past? What does his death mean to us? Could we somehow participate in Jesus’ suffering and death? Let us not forget that Easter comes after Good Friday... and let us take time to consider how we ought to share in the suffering and death of Jesus, the Precious Lamb that God freely gave to us, and then may we say with the Apostle Paul in Philippians 3.10: "...that I may know him and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of his sufferings, being conformed to his death."

We all know how sharp the tongue can be, how one can literally be cut down with words. But surely that’s not half as serious as murder. So, why ever would the Lord Jesus deal with these two (surely separate) issues at one go?

Well, that should be easy, shouldn’t it – surpassing the Pharisees’ righteousness! After all, weren’t they all hypocrites, and didn’t the Lord Jesus denounce them?

But what’s this about the Law not being abolished? Doesn’t the New Covenant supersede the Old Covenant with its Laws? As Christians, aren’t we now to simply revel in the freedom of God’s grace?

Let’s together correctly understand this fundamental teaching given here in Matt 5.17-20 as it concerns our eligibility to even enter the Kingdom of Heaven......

Jesus said to his followers, "You are the light of the world." What an awesome responsibility! Yet many of us don’t even know what it is to be light, nor what it takes to shine for God. But we must not fail, for if we are not light, people will continue to sit in darkness.
Ever thought why the Lord’s disciples are called the salt of the earth? What happens to salt when it's doing its work? And how could salt ever become unsalty? Surely that would be unthinkable! But if we are the salt of the earth, to lose our saltiness would be absolutely tragic. Let us look more closely into God’s Word to understand why the Lord Jesus used this picture of salt to teach his followers – then and now...

Christmas Greetings: I Need a Silent Night

Everyone loves the Christmas season. The cheerful music, the blinking lights, the brightly colored decorations and Christmas trees. Everyone loves shopping for gifts for people who are special to us. Christmas means many different things to everyone, but this year, all I wanted-or needed-was one thing-that I could cling to the Father.

It's a time to put things in perspective, to get priorities straight, and to focus our time and energy on drawing closer to God. Nothing is more important. In fact, it's so important that God gave His only Son over to death on a cross so that we would be able to draw close to Him.

I challenge and encourage you in the midst of the hustle and bustle of this holiday season to take a quiet moment to ask God what your "one thing" is for this Christmas season.

The Two Types of Foundations

If life were like building a house, what would the foundation of your house be like? And what would you do to ensure it stands the test? When the floods come, would that mean destruction? Or safety? Let us meditate on the Lord's teaching here in Matt 7.21-27...

The Nativity Star

Aah, it's Christmas again. Another year, and the same Christmas message repeated? This Christmas, let God transform you through the understanding of His Word! Back then, they asked, "Where is He that is born King of the Jews? For we have seen His Star in the East, and are come to worship Him." - Matt 2.2 They came to worship Him. Are you really ready to worship Him, the Christ - the King of kings, the Lord of lords?

Depart From Me, You Evildoers

Evildoers? The Lord can't be addressing the likes of us, surely not. We’re not evil. Weak in faith, perhaps yes. But evil, no. Who could the Lord be rejecting, we wonder. What kind of person will be rejected by the Lord? And what kind of person will be welcomed by him?

Beware of The False Prophets

We'll rush to listen to this sermon because we don't want to be duped by false prophets. But how are we supposed to tell what's really underneath the sheepskin?
WAIT! Before we even try to discern true from false prophets, we would do well to make sure that we ourselves are indeed sheep and not wolves...

Enter by the narrow gate?? Whatever for?!! That's not we want. We want to be on the fast lane. We want to be on the highway that gets us there. We want the trouble-free way. But the Lord Jesus warns us about that wide gate and that easy way - they lead to destruction! The narrow gate is certainly not going to be easy, but God is faithful.
Walking with GOD in the Last Days as Noah Did

God used this message to challenge the Melbourne church. After hearing it, many stepped forth to serve God wherever He would lead them.
The message is not just for the Melbourne church, but for all those who really hear the Lord Jesus' words. Is it too costly for you to walk with God as Noah did? Hear the testimony of those who walk with God....

If You Wish Men To Do To You Do So To Them

Many are familiar with the negative aspect of this verse:
Don't be rude, then others won't be rude to you. Don't cheat if you don't want to be cheated.
BUT Jesus revolutionizes the teaching into the very active DO:
Whatever you wish men to do to you, so do to them. This sermon shows very clearly what every true Christian should be experiencing if he / she is doing this teaching.
